The California Community College Chancellor’s Office “Facilities Planning Manual” states that: The College 'Master Plan' is defined as a comprehensive planning document encompassing all functions of the college or district. Given the complexities of most communities, the master planning process is not a step-by-step, linear process but a dynamic process consisting of a mixture of methods. Information and ideas are exchanged at every level, combined and recombined, until a particular approach emerges as a good choice. That approach is developed, often leading to new ideas and combinations, until a feasible plan is constructed and accepted. The plan must be idealistic enough to inspire improvement and change and realistic enough to be implemented successfully over time.
The purpose of this website is to facilitate a participatory process that includes the shared vision of hundreds of students, faculty, staff, administrators, trustees and members of the community. SOCCCD through its consultant, gkkworks, is working with college and district stakeholders mentioned above to develop a thoughtfully prepared roadmap to be known as the 2011 Education and Facilities Master Plan which ultimately guides the development of instructional programs, student services and facilities.
Note: The cut-off date for Education and Facilities Master Plan comments will be March 15, 2011, please provide any additional comments by then.
The workplan below depicts the process that will be utilized to complete the education and facilities planning though its completion in May of 2011:
